FTC just finished up there Cash Contest, where some of the best skateboarders get together in this tiny shop that they turn into a skatepark and have a contest. Evan smith came in 3rd place winning a 1000 bucks! You can see more pictures of the contest at the transworld site.

Also Evan will be on tour with the rest of the DC Shoe team across the southern states including Galactic G on March 16 at 6:00 pm

Palm Coast Florida is known for its awesome beaches and being like paradise but not so much about the amazing skateboarders from there. Maybe because there hasn't been any until lately. Daylando's very own Blake Carpenter just had a clip put out by Tj Gaskill of him skating at the new Daytona skatepark. I am going to just say it... Blake Carpenter is the most under rated skateboarder in Central Florida, if not all of Florida. This kid doesn't even have any sponsors!

First I have to say get well to Aaron Collier. Keep ya head up, homey, it will all work out.

It has become more and more apparent to me that I am not alone in the skate world as a basketball fan... And I am certainly not alone as a Magic fan among skaters in Orlando. So I am about to start doing what I have always considered doing but never actually talked myself into, and that is blog about Magic basketball here on Southskate.

What a great day to start too. We pulled out a great win last night against the Celtics at the Amway and I was there to witness. Check out the highlights and if you go shred today, consider rockin' that Shard jersey out in the streets.

Atlanta, GA, December 1, 2009 – Voting for the Bangers for Bucks skate contest at Surf Expo starts today! Shops from across the country are vying for the final three slots for the retail shop contest, sponsored by Eastern Skateboard Supply and Vans.

The Selection Process

A total of ten teams representing skate retail shops will compete January 14-15 in Orlando. Three of these teams have been selected by Surf Expo based on industry recommendations and consistent support shown for the skate industry. Four other teams were selected by skate media representatives from FTK Magazine and Focus Magazine.

The final three slots are up to voters. These “Fan Favorite” shops will be chosen from shops who submitted a video to surfexpo.com. The three teams that receive the most votes will win an invitation to compete.

My Review of Cosmic Vomit

After seeing Bert's part from Cosmic Vomit, I knew I had to get a copy of the DVD. I've never been a fan of ordering stuff online. I talked to Ryan O'Connor from Rip-n-Dip and he promised that it would be to my house in two days, and 2 days later there it was at my door. The video came in a sealed envelope with Rip-n-Dip mailing tags on it. Inside the envelope there was of course the video, a couple RND stickers, and even a catalog for their product which was sick to find in there. The DVD case and actual DVD look professional not like alot of DVDs that you get from local videos.

I knew that Bert's part was crazy but I didn't expect much from the rest of the video not really knowing anyone else in the video. I figured that buying the video would be just to help out Grant Yansura but he totally proved me wrong. Every ones part was sick! I was super confused to see that Berts part wasn't last but actually first. Last part went to Andrew Considine who I have never heard of but his part was Crazy! Johan Stuckey never disappoints with his parts. Even Grant had a part that was really good and it was nice to see a filmer that actually goes out and stacks clips!

Grant did an amazing job with this video. Filming is great, the editing and effects were awesome. Its 100% worth the like 15 bucks I paid for it. Everyone should go onto the Rip-n-Dip site and get this video and pick up some shirts while your on there too! Check out this promo for the video and then go buy it!

It was just a normal boring day at work today when New Blood Skate Shop rider Kass Plumber came into the store. He told me that he was leaving for Europe in November for a couple of contests that he quailfied for a while back. He now riding UK skateboard companyby the name of Jart. Which has a killer team!

Gator Board Shop just put this flyer on their myspace page not too long ago. The video has been the works for a bit and I am pretty sure I have some footage in it. The teams has some heavy hitters like Dane Vaughn and Sam Bianchini so its sure to be a killer video! And on top of that there is a $200 best trick and a bikini contest! There is no reason not to go!

Its a slow day at work today and I was browsing the internet when I came across this picture of Dalton Dern at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour. I just wanted to congratulate him on getting second place and for being able to handplant on a huge vert ramp! That's nuts! Aaron Collier and CJ Dixon were also at the Free Flow tour for the skate park finals. I know they both made it to the final 12 but not sure what the placed overall. I will post results as soon as I find them.

3 or 4 years ago I met this guy from MIA named Paul Hurtado at a Innes Demo at Mesh. He was there skating the Demo and was doing some of the weirdest/craziest tricks I have ever seen. I was there filming and he came up to me and introduced him self and was the nicest guy ever. Well I haven't seen Paul since that day that I can recall but he recently started his own company called Amaxon. They have great graphics and some some hard hitting team riders! Check out Amaxon's products and help support a south Florida company!

Redbull Manny Mania contest update

Manny Mania presented by Redbull went down on August 1st in Miami. First place went to Mesh, Expedition, and Osiris rider Aaron Collier. Second place went to another Mesh rider who also skates for Rip-N-Dip and Organika who goes by the name of Bert Wooton. Bert also won the best trick at Manny Mania. DW and crew are going all out with a cinema style video premiere in Ft. Lauderdale on Feb. 28th. Check this place out! Not only does it look like a great place to premiere a skate video, the venue is pretty important to the arts and history of South Florida.

Actually this is the second TAMPA AM 2008 because they had one in January of this year too. According to the Spot guys its just gotten to be too hectic having this huge contest so close to the Surf Expo, and other reasons like the am series can wrap at the end of the year rather than the beginning. Makes total sense to me...

M.I.A. Clash of the Crews

Congratulations to MESH Skatepark for winning M.I.A.'s Clash of the Crews Contest. The best coverage of the event so far is on Skatepark of Tampa's website but according to Simon there is plenty of footage yet to be assembled of what sounds like a weekend long rager.

I have respect for local shops that will throw down serious cash for a contest. Too bad all the shops around here don't make a strong effort to give a little back rather then take, take, take. We all know who they are: they are the shops that sell over priced product and only get involved with throwing an event when they think they can make money off of it somehow...

Somewhere back in 2004-05 a couple of kids in Knoxville and Chattanooga Tennessee started a site called Tennskate.com. One of those kids was Mark Stewart, who has since gone on to do some pretty big things in the world of a serious Filmer Guy. The other was RJ Hess, who made this video you see below entitled "All Day" which is footage out of the very best of the early Tennskate days.

RJ and Mark have come back to resurrect Tennskate. Go check it out and bookmark this url if you have any inclination as to what's good.

to congratulate Floridan Timmy Knuth for showing up at the Doosh Tore and getting fourth. Regardless of how hyped you are on the marketing machine extreme contest that is the AST Dew Tour, Timmy beat out some big guns in this contest and did it under the pressure of a Mountain Dew sized crowd.

The second newest Buttery Ass Monday is one I hope all of the younger web lurkers take a moment to watch. I have noticed this epidemic in my own city and I only hope through education and awareness we can slow the spread of this horrible affliction. No skate park is safe.

Ryan O'Conner used to be the most obnoxious little shit that would show up at Metro with Vince D. (who at the time was literally attached, I think, to O'Con's right hip...) They used to ride for a surf shop called Bali Blue which made for a great opportunity to make fun of them since that place was as awesome as the gay-blue tee shirts they rocked proudly as team riders. I remember wanting to ring the necks of these hyper-active prepubescents at times when they were seriously able to annoy people around them to insanity. AAhhh memories...

So anyways that was a long time ago and now when I think of Ryan O'Conner, I have much respect. After all he's a real dude making his way on his own terms. He's inspiring, he's amusing, his skating is definitely coming up and from what I hear he's still pretty annoying at times.

And then there is this RIP AND DIP thing... I really think at this point it's safe to say that this shit's got legs! I look forward to seeing this thing take off.
